At 74 years old, with over 46 years of riding under his belt, it’s safe to say that Paul Olson knows his way around motorcycles. Having owned iconic machines that included the Honda 300 Super Hawk, a Triumph Bonneville, three Gold Wings and more than 15 Harley-Davidsons, Paul is well-versed in how things work and knows a quality product when he sees it.
We had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with Paul at this year’s Davis Rally in New Hampton, IA. He came by to show us his 2010 Ultra Limited HDT-V trike and we were not only impressed with his ride, but we also really enjoyed getting to know the owner. Paul’s history is an interesting one and includes being a career farmer, photographer and breeder of purebred Yorkshire Hogs. During his breeding days (the hogs, of course) Paul dealt with some pretty high flying buyers who would actually put the hogs on planes and fly them off to Japan, Korea and other exotic destinations.
When it came time to move from two wheels to three, Paul invested considerable time and energy into research, including talking to all of the major manufacturers and riding examples of their product. We are happy to say that at the end of Paul’s research, he was convinced that Roadsmith clearly led the way in terms of design, engineering and build quality. He ended up working with one of our dealers that was present at the same show two years ago and the result of that partnership was the beautiful trike you see here. He had nothing but good things to say about the installation, service and, ultimately, the end product.
We enjoyed meeting Paul and seeing his beautiful trike at the show and promised to get together again at our Trike Owners United Ride in Sturgis next year. In the meantime, we wish him many happy and safe miles on his Roadsmith Trike!
