April showers may bring flowers, but April also delivers to us, yet another, worthy trike of the month candidate. John and Dianne Forshey, or “Jack & Dianne” as they are known amongst friends, are the proud owners of this 2011 Victory Cross Country Tour with a Roadsmith VTR kit, installed by top 10 Roadsmith dealer, UNB Customs in Denver, North Carolina. We caught up with the “two American kids, just doin’ the best they can” during last month’s Bike Week Rally in Daytona Beach, while they were on their way back from a ride to Key West.
John’s love of two wheels and the open road started in his late teens on a Honda 305 Superhawk. It was around that time he also met his now wife (of 40 years) Dianne, who is a motorcyclist herself. John was working as a grocery store manager and Dianne was a customer, but their love sparked in the frozen foods section and they never looked back. (Plus, John really needed a place to store his Corvette at the time and Dianne happened to have a garage - what a deal for him!)
As can often happen, adult life, kids, a house, or a career can separate a rider from the open road, so it wasn’t until 2009 that John and his wife discovered riding again. After a brief stint on a Kawasaki Nomad, they purchased a 2011 Victory Cross Country because of the stretched out leg room for John’s long inseam. For two years “Jack and Dianne” toured heavily on the American cruiser, but they soon realized they needed something with a little more stability. Plus, they were towing a Bushtec trailer and had intentions of accomplishing some even longer rides. The 800 pound bike was getting pretty heavy, and as John said, “Here’s the real kicker…my wife wanted to drive!”
They met the guys at UNB Customs while in Daytona for Biketoberfest 2013, and a couple months later they were twisting the same throttle with a brand new Roadsmith VTR kit to tackle the road ahead. When asked how the experience with UNB was, there was nothing but complimentary things to say. As John exclaimed, “I mean he went as far as to detail the spare tire on my trailer!” It’s that kind of attention to detail and customer service that makes Uwe and Phil at UNB one of our top 10.
Both Jack and Dianne are recently retired, so now there’s nothing but open air and long winding roads ahead for the couple, with plans to take a trip to Americade in upstate New York, South Dakota, the Redwood Forest, and wherever else the wind blows them. All of us here at Roadsmith couldn’t be happier for the “two American kids”, and wish them the best of luck adding more stories to their “little ditty” on the road ahead.
